Poetry and Thoughts

On this and the links pages you will find some poetry (some written by my son, Shawn),
and some I borrowed. Some are even my own thoughts. If the author is known, I will name them.

If you know who wrote some of these, please email me so I can add their names to their work. I hope you enjoy what you find here.

You Won't Understand

Often people say to me "You just won't understand."
"You're way too old,"
-;- or -;-
"Way too young," or "YOU are NOT a man."
-;-
I don't know why some people feel they suffer unique pain. As if they are the only ones who've lost or ceased to gain. I don't know why they hide their pain and clutch it ever tighter.
-;-
It seems to me that all should know -
-;-
a burden shared gets lighter.
-;-
Why some folks even deign to think the pain that's in their heart, Is all their own, to keep and hoard, they set themselves apart.
-;-
They keep their eyes from meeting mine
-;-
lest I should see their hurt. And even if we stop and speak their words are often curt.
-;-
The Bible says: 'Two' can withstand what overcomes just 'one'. And also that - a 'Cord of Three' can scarcely be undone.
-;-
Besides, I know the ways of hurt -
-;-
My heart's been crushed before.
-;-
Friends have betrayed - I've lost at love, Despair's knocked at my door.
-;-
And I Remember - Thoughts gone wild -
-;-
And crying late at night.
-;-
Not having strength to care at all - Much less the strength to fight.
-;-
But, someone special came to me -
-;-
And when my trials were told. I realized that with their tears - They'd eased my heavy load.
-;-
And so, I learned - that Pain - like Love - Is bearable if shared.
-;-
I don't know what I would have done
-;-
without that friend who cared.
-;-
My trials did not vanish fast - In fact the time was long. But sharing gave me breathing space until I could grow strong
-;-
Enough to laugh again and even start to smile -
-;-
And though it seemed it could not help - It eased my pain awhile.
-;-
So, if you think that you can't share cause I won't understand. At least just give me half a chance to lend a helping hand.
-;-
For I know that you're hurting and I know a place to start.
-;-
Perhaps if you could realize - Your pain burns in my heart.
-;-
I know I cannot make your trials and troubles go away. But maybe I can help a bit to get you through today.
-;-
And maybe by tomorrow you wont need help anymore.
-;-
But if you should - Don't be ashamed - For that's what friends are for.
-;-
And after all is said and done - The trials ceased - You're whole.
-;-
Perhaps you'll know just what to do to help another soul -
-;-
Who's being crushed by hurt and pain - be it woman or a man. And you won't have to hear them say
-;-
"You just won't understand.
-;- -;- -;-
(I wish I could take credit for this one but...)

Waterfall

We lay on a blanket in the mountain meadow
near a sapphire lake at the base of a cascading waterfall...
We gaze out on the beautiful valley before us..
all is quiet except for the rustling of the tall grasses in the gentle breeze..
an eagle soars overhead... curious deer graze closeby.
Smells of wildflowers abound around us,
adding to the heady atmosphere
we have created in our hideaway.

We speak softly so not to disturb the peacefullness ...
our words punctuated with gentle kisses and carresses..
each kiss, each caress growing in intensity until finally
as we consummate our love under the big open sky...
our souls mingle and soar to the heavens as one.

Place of Peace

As I sit in this place of peace,
I watch the fire,
and burn with desire,
To find this place in my life,
To love a woman
and call her my wife.
As I sit in this place of peace,
I hear Mother Nature at her best,
and feel the love She has,
for what She has Created.
As I sit in this place of peace,
I feel the desire,
to have that same love for my own.
As I sit in this place of peace,
I feel the gentle Warmth touch my face,
and I long for that same warm touch
to come from another.
As I sit in this place of peace,
I hear the gentle whisper,
Of the wind in my ear,
And softly I hear,
the Voices of the Ones,
The Ones that have been here before me,
and in this place of peace,
I know I'm not the only one.
In this place of peace
I am reassured there is another heart that
beats as true as mine,
In this place of peace I am one,
but a part of another, and
In this place of peace I take a memory that
shall make me whole once again.

You cannot make someone love you.
All you can do is be someone who can be loved.
The rest is up to them.

Never bear more than one kind of trouble at a time.
Some people bear three.....
all they have had,...
all they have now...
and all they expect to have.

Harsh Words
I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.
He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."
We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way saying good-bye.
But at home a difference is told,
how we treat our loved ones, young and old.
Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.
As I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.
He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.
While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,
"While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use,
But the children you love, you seem to abuse.
Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.
Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.
He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
and you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."
By this time, I felt very small,
and now my tears began to fall.
I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.
" Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.
I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."
I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay. I love you anyway."
I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow,
the company that we are working for
would easily replace us in a matter of days.
But the family we left behind
will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it,
we pour ourselves more into work
than to our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?
Do you know what the word FAMILY means?

To listen with an open mind when others speak...
And to remember the peace that may only be found in silence."
